Quite unexpectedly, I found a caterpillar of the black swallowtail butterfly on my dill. I had not seen any in my garden for several years so I was delighted. After snapping a few shots and watching it eat young seed heads, I left it alone. I came back about an hour later and it was gone. My guess is that it was lunch for a bird. How very disappointing.
