I was unable to find information about the meaning of „anethum“ but, having read The Ruta Page, we all know what „graveolens“ means, right? The common name comes either from the old Norse word, dilla, or the Anglo-Saxon, dylle, each meaning „to soothe“ or „to lull“.

As long as I can remember, there was always dill growing in my mother‘s garden. I was always happy to go cut some for her when she needed dill for cooking because I liked the smell, but more so the soft and airy sensation of the leaves in my hands. These days, I often stroke the dill growing in my garden for the sheer pleasure of it.

It is not possible to make a good cold beet soup without dill.
